
Nokia can boast of another world-first as it successfully completes a carrier aggregation in a 5G standalone (SA) network environment.
The vendor partnered with Taiwan Mobile to combine spectrum in the 700MHz (n28) and 3500MHz (n78) bands in a New Radio Carrier Aggregation (NR CA) trial.

Carrier aggregation increases coverage, supports higher rates, and enables the benefits of 5G networks to be maximised by delivering enhanced network capacity.

The trial used Nokia’s AirScale 5G SA architecture in Taiwan Mobile’s commercial 5G network and combined two spectrum bands, frequency division duplex (FDD) in 700MHz (n28) and time division duplex (TDD) in 3500MHz (n78). Both bands are widely used for 5G networks around the world.
