Nokia is to launch the first MulteFire small cell in the world to help industries, enterprises, smart cities and mobile service providers leverage global unlicensed spectrum for reliable, safe, high-capacity and high-coverage private LTE networks.
The new Nokia Flexi Zone MulteFire Multiband Pico BTS will pave the way towards 5G connectivity in the future by enabling enterprises to establish a connection between mobile sensor-enabled 'things' and individuals in a more efficient manner.
With the easy to install MulteFire small cell, industries, smart cities and mobile service providers can have numerous benefits. The MulteFire will allow hotel, mall, and stadium owners to open up their Private LTE network to mobile service providers to improve indoor services for subscribers at their locations and attract new revenue streams. It will enable mobile service providers to expand their mobile enterprise offer to enterprises that are outside their licensed spectrum footprint. With the MulteFire small cell, tracking parcels and containers in major logistic hubs and campuses will become easy for industries.
Randy Cox, head of small cell product management at Nokia, said: "By making it possible for anyone to operate their own Private LTE network, Nokia is driving the transformation of industries in the same way that mobile networks and devices transformed our lives as consumers.
"Using Flexi Zone MulteFire small cells to deliver a private 4G layer, we offer an additional wireless option to Ethernet that can easily and cost-effectively connect massive numbers of people and things including mobile assets," added Cox. "Wireless networks have a critical role in helping operators and industries embrace the fourth industrial revolution."
The Nokia Flexi Zone MulteFire small cell will be on display at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain, from 26 February to 1 March.
