EE creates 5G ‘Pit Stops’ to show off cloud gaming

EE has created 5G ‘Pit Stops’ to celebrate its new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate add-on and show off cloud gaming.

Cloud gaming promises more flexibility to play the latest titles whether you’re on your commute (remember those?), on holiday, down the park, or even tucked up in bed. However, the latency with 4G networks – and even most current WiFi networks to some extent – makes the experience more frustrating than enjoyable.

EE braces for a summer of staycations with coastal coverage boost

BT-owned EE, the UK’s largest mobile operator, is preparing for a surge in summer staycations by boosting its coverage in popular coastal destinations.

After being mostly cooped up inside for over a year, a holiday is near the forefront of most people’s minds. Many aren’t yet ready to travel abroad – especially with travel advice for destinations changing at short notice – and so will be looking a little closer to home.

Marc Allera, CEO of the Consumer Division...

UK completes 5G spectrum auction following two-month delay

British telecoms regulator Ofcom has completed its 5G spectrum auction following a two-month delay.

The spectrum auction was initially scheduled to take place in January but was pushed back amid another wave of COVID-19.

“The auction and subsequent release of spectrum remain central to the future rollout of mobile networks and 5G. The economy’s recovery from COVID-19 is dependent on resilient digital infrastructure and we urge Ofcom to resist any further requests for...

For new BT customers, or those who’ve just moved into a new house, Halo 3+ also means users can get online while they wait for...

EE uses iPhone 12 Pro’s AR to show off 5G’s early capabilities

BT-owned operator EE is using the iPhone 12 Pro’s AR to help make an early case for 5G as part of a new marketing campaign.

5G devices have been available for well over a year now, but it’s often said that new smartphone technologies aren’t truly adopted until that little old firm called Apple gets onboard.

With 5G iPhones now available, operators are expected to ramp up their 5G deployments and marketing significantly. More people than ever will have devices in...

British mobile operators will be banned from selling locked phones

Telecoms regulator Ofcom has banned mobile operators from selling locked phones after December 2021.

Locking mobiles to specific networks often causes confusion for consumers and prevents them from switching at the end of their contracts.

Selina Chadha, Connectivity Director at Ofcom, said:

“We know that lots of people can be put off from switching because their handset is locked.

So we’re banning mobile companies from selling locked phones, which...

RootMetrics: EE continues its lead in the UK, but Three’s 5G is fastest

RootMetrics by IHS Markit's latest UK report shows no sign of EE losing its overall lead, but Three's 5G potential is beginning to emerge.

The UK's largest mobile operator by subscribers managed to achieve a median download speed of 42.6Mbps across 16 major cities tested. In half of the cities, EE achieved 50Mbps. In Manchester,...
