Nokia has reached a significant milestone in the race to become the backbone of global 5G networks.
The Finnish telecoms vendor now has 100 commercial 5G deals and a total of 160 commercial 5G engagements.
Nokia says enterprise customers now make up 12 percent of its 5G deals, with recent private wireless deployments including Deutsche Bahn, Toyota Production Engineering, and Sandvik.
Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, said:
“We are thrilled to have passed this 5G milestone. We know we still have work to do and that the market remains highly competitive. But, we are moving fast – and these wins make it clear that our progress is being validated by customers.
We deeply appreciate their ongoing support and are committed to delivering for them.”
While the market remains competitive, Nokia – and its rivals – are benefitting from the restrictions and bans on Huawei’s equipment. Earlier this week, BT announced that it’s selected Nokia to replace Huawei’s equipment for EE’s 5G network.
However, according to figures from Dell’Oro, Huawei remained significantly ahead in overall global telecoms equipment revenue over the first half of the year:

The figures suggest Nokia, Ericsson, and ZTE are in fierce competition for second place in terms of overall global telecoms equipment revenue.
An independent report last month from Analysys Mason suggests Nokia is in a great position to pull ahead in the race—beating rivals based on strong growth and a portfolio which the analysts claim leads in almost all categories.
